Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania NMP propose to install a fire suppression/sprinkler system in the Fredericksburg Visitor Center building. This structure was built in the 1930's and the site receives over 1000,000 visitors annually; it's located within the city limits on Lafayette Blvd in the Fredericksburg Battlefield, VA. The project will provide protection not only to get people out to safety, but also to control or extinguish the fire, saving the building and its contents. It will ensure that the building meets current National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) fire protection codes.

The FRSP Curatorial Fire Protection Survey identified the need for a fire protection system. The system is needed to protect the structure but is also needed for employee and visitor safety. If a fire were to start, catastrophic loss to the structure and historic fabric could be minimized with a standard fire suppression system.
