The Record of Decision for the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Fire Managmenet Plan (FMP) for Grand Canyon National Park is now available. The Record of Decision (ROD) documents the decision and sets direction for the development of the monitoring and implementation plan.

The Fire Management Plan is now posted on the Grand Canyon National Park fire website and the Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) website at www.parkplanning.nps.gov.

The preferred alternative, Mixed Fire Treatment Program, resembles the current fire program but uses newly defined Fire Management Units which include suppression, wildland fire-use, and prescribed fires and non-fire treatments with additional options of mechanical and manual hazard fuel treatment techniques. The focus of the preferred alternative is on restoring and maintaining park ecosystems with prescribed and wildland fire-use fire and reducing hazard fuels in Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) areas using prescribed fire and non-fire treatments.
