Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park (the park) preserves and interprets the sites of the US Civil War Battles of Kolb Farm and Kennesaw Mountain, which occurred between June 18 and July 2, 1864, as a part of General William T. Sherman's Atlanta Campaign. The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing a Cultural Landscape Report (CLR) for two parcels the NPS is in the process of acquiring. The cultural landscape includes the Josiah S. Wallis House, which served as the temporary headquarters of Union Major-General Oliver Otis Howard and a field hospital for both Federal and Confederate soldiers, as well as a hill that provided key terrain for Confederate earthworks and a Civil War signal station. The CLR will provide strategies for preservation, wayfinding, interpretation, circulation, facilities, and landscape management.
