Dear Friends,

I am very pleased to announce the completion of the Abbreviated Final General Management Plan for Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument. The plan is a culmination of a great deal of time, energy, and input from members of the public, other agencies, and the National Park Service (NPS). The general management plan provides comprehensive guidance for perpetuating natural systems, preserving cultural resources, and providing opportunities for high-quality visitor experiences in the park units for the next 15 to 20 years.

The Draft General Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement was distributed to other agencies and interested organizations and individuals for review and comment. This Abbreviated Final General Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement includes the comments received on the draft plan and the NPS responses. The document also includes a correction (errata) sheet that describes the minor changes made to the draft in response to comments received. Because these changes were minor, the National Park Service has permission to prepare this abbreviated document. The draft and the abbreviated final constitute the full final general management plan.

The Abbreviated Final General Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement is now available on the National Park Service website at http://parkplanning.nps.gov/lamr. A limited number of hard copies and compact discs of both the Draft General Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement and the Abbreviated Final General Management Plan / Environmental Impact Statement are available from the park upon request.

Your input was instrumental in the planning process. The National Park Service values the public's interest in Lake Meredith National Recreation Area and Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument, and we look forward to implementing this plan with your support and collaboration.

Sincerely,

Robert Maguire
Superintendent
Lake Meredith National Recreation Area
