Public Involvement for Sampling and Analysis Plan for Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Site Assessment at Caneel Bay Resort

Virgin Islands National Park » Public Involvement for Sampling and Analysis Plan for Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Site Assessment at Caneel Bay Resort » Document List

On February 11, the National Park Service (NPS) initiated the next phase of environmental site assessments for an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) at Caneel Bay Resort within Virgin Islands National Park. The purpose of the field sampling is to provide data to determine the nature and extent of possible soil and groundwater contamination at the site and evaluate potential risks to human health and the environment resulting from such contamination.

The NPS values and encourages public participation and will share opportunities about future public comment periods throughout this process. After the on-site assessment is completed, NPS will prepare an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis Report (EE/CA Report), which will document the results of the assessment, compare approaches for cleanup or other recommended actions to address any identified unacceptable risks to human health or the environment.

Virgin Islands National Park will provide notice of the opportunity for the public to comment on the EE/CA Report when it is complete, which could take several months. NPS will also hold a public meeting to discuss the report and the results of the assessment more directly with the public.

Reports, the Administrative Record, and other documents relating to this assessment will be available on this website.

During the assessment, community members may also reach out to the park for more information: Nigel Fields, Superintendent, (340) 776-6201 ext. 431; viis_superintendent@nps.gov
