Mammoth Cave's Draft Environmental Assessment of the Cave and Karst Management Plan Is Open for Comments in July

Mammoth Cave National Park officials invite public comments on the draft Environmental Assessment (EA) of the park's proposed Cave and Karst Management Plan during a public comment period from Monday, July 1 to Tuesday, July 30. The EA document is available for view here on the Planning, Environment, and Public Comment (PEPC) website at parkplanning.nps.gov/maca.

The purpose of the Cave and Karst Management Plan is to provide a consistent framework for managing the world-class cave and karst resources found at Mammoth Cave National Park. The final plan will provide direction to protect and conserve the park's complex and sensitive resources through the use of science to promote stewardship and understanding. It will address resource protection issues, particularly those related to visitation, research, and/or above ground activities that can impact cave resources below ground, as well as sustainable public enjoyment and education.

The park will hold public meetings on Tuesday, July 16 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Cave City Convention Center in Cave City, KY and on Thursday, July 18 from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Edmonson County Public Library in Brownsville, KY for the public to review details of the draft EA, meet with park staff, and provide comments.

Comments on the draft EA can also be submitted through the PEPC website or by U.S. Mail addressed to "Superintendent, Mammoth Cave National Park, c/o Cave and Karst Management Plan, P.O. Box 7, Mammoth Cave, KY 42259."
