Implement Boat Speed Zones in Chokoloskee Bay Manatee Area of Inadequate Protection
Everglades National Park » Implement Boat Speed Zones in Chokoloskee Bay Manatee Area of Inadequate Protection » Document List
The zones would be similar to speed zones already established by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and Collier County in the AIP area adjacent to the park. They would be designated through revision of the Superintendent's Compendium regulations and implemented through public outreach, education, posting of signs and enforcement.
The NPS will hold a public meeting to provide an opportunity for public review and comment on these alternatives that will better protect manatees within park boundaries. The meeting will be held on January 16, 2008 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Everglades City School, 415 School Drive, Everglades City, 34139.
Input on the draft alternatives will be accepted through February 16, 2008. Comments can be provided in writing on this website; mailed to Superintendent, Everglades National Park, 40001 State Road 9336, Homestead, FL 33034-6733; or emailed to EVER_Ranger_Activities@nps.gov
The NPS will carefully consider all comments and may revise the alternatives or add new alternatives if appropriate. An appropriate level of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis will be completed prior to NPS and FWS selection and implementation of speed zones.
