Annual Yosemite Facelift Parkwide Volunteer Event

Yosemite National Park » Annual Yosemite Facelift Parkwide Volunteer Event » Document List

The 7th Annual Yosemite Facelift will once again be sponsored by Yosemite Climbing Association (YCA). The National Park Service will support the Facelift logistics, clean-up, and restoration components and insure compliance of the various aspects of the Facelift. The Facelift is a volunteer-based, park wide trash removal and restoration event corresponding with National Public Lands Day. First initiated in 2003 by the Yosemite climbing community, the Facelift has grown into a hugely successful, family oriented, park-wide annual event that is supported by park operations.

The Facelift provides visitors with the opportunity to volunteer in 2 different ways: (1) independent park-wide litter clean-up, and (2) special projects involving more coordinated efforts to clean or restore previously identified areas. Park-wide litter clean-up describes the type and extent of activities that the majority of event volunteers will participate in, while the special projects will have assigned NPS personnel supervising activities and will require more intensive coordination. This year's Facelift will continue with more educational components to encourage volunteer stewardship and resource protection both in National Parks and in the volunteer's home areas. The check-in registration process will be consistent for all volunteers.

Each volunteer must sign-up each day worked at the event registration center located in front of the Yosemite Valley Visitor Center or Friday-Sunday at additional check-in locations in Tuolumne and Crane Flat. The registration centers will be open from 8am to 5pm each day.

Although there is some overlap, the project compliance is for the independent volunteer clean-up activities, and special projects. YCA has applied for a Special Park Use permit for evening and afternoon events, camping, educational tables and check-in sites.

Many of the special projects already have compliance approval from previous years, some special projects are a part of other projects with their own compliance (the Facelift is providing requested vol. labor). In this document only the special projects that have not received previous or concurrent compliance are included.
