SUP-Calnev Pipeline, Installation of Corrosion Prevention Units

Mojave National Preserve » SUP-Calnev Pipeline, Installation of Corrosion Prevention Units » Document List

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, owner of Calnev Pipeline, LLC, has applied for permission to replace a cathodic protection system for two petroleum pipelines that run through Mojave National Preserve. An 8 5/8" pipeline runs parallel to a 14" pipeline across public lands from Colton, California to Las Vegas, Nevada. They traverse less than five miles of wilderness in Mojave National Preserve; within this subsection, the pipelines corrode at a more rapid rate where they cross Soda Lake. The pipelines' sacrificial anode cathodic protection system has passed its useful life; KMEP needs to replace it soon to prevent pipeline corrosion.

The Environmental Assessment (EA) for this project was available for public comment from July 31, 2015 through August 30, 2015. A Findings of No Significant Impact was concluded November 2, 2015. The Errata to the EA is available to the public.
