Proposed CERCLA site response activities at Great Basin National Park

Great Basin National Park » Proposed CERCLA site response activities at Great Basin National Park » Document List

The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service (NPS), has developed proposed response activities related to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) within Great Basin National Park (GRBA), White Pine County, Nevada.

The proposed response activities will address soil, sediment, and source material at four sites located within two drainages. The Boneyard Wash Dump and Gravel Pit Dump sites are located in the Lehman Creek drainage, and the Bonita Mine Mill and Johnson Lake Mine Mill sites are located in the Snake Creek drainage. The NPS is the lead regulatory agency and derives their regulatory oversight authority to conduct non-time-critical removal actions in response to the release or threatened release of hazardous substances at or from the sites from CERCLA.

As a federal agency, the NPS must follow the CERCLA process in the National Oil and Hazardous Substances Pollution Contingency Plan (NCP) to support an Engineering Evaluation/Cost Analysis (EE/CA) for each of the sites. The goals of the EE/CA are to identify the objectives of any action and to assess the various alternatives that may be used to satisfy these objectives for cost, effectiveness, and implementability.

An EE/CA for each of the four sites is now available for review on this site as PDFs or in hard copy format at the Great Basin Visitor Center in Baker, NV during normal business hours. A 30 day comment period will be provided beginning Friday August 24th, 2018 and ending Monday, September 24th, 2018. A public meeting may be held pending the level of public interest.

Online comments through the PEPC system are preferred but you may submit written comments to the park at:
