The National Park Service (NPS) will be preparing a environmental assessment for a project that proposes to remove four condemned trailers and replace them with two one-story, three-apartment seasonal housing units (tri-plex) and two 20-person group campsites in the Mesa Housing Area in Bandelier National Monument, New Mexico. The purpose of this project is to provide safe and energy-efficient housing to NPS employees and to reduce the administrative use of campsites at Juniper Campground.

An environmental assessment will be prepared in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to provide the decision-making framework that 1) analyzes a reasonable range of alternatives to meet project objectives, 2) evaluates issues and impacts to monument resources and values, and 3) identifies mitigation measures to lessen the degree or extent of these impacts
