Commercial film permit, John Wesley Powell documentary

Arches National Park » Commercial film permit, John Wesley Powell documentary » Document List

A British production company, Impossible Pictures, has requested a permit to film a John Wesley Powell documentary in Canyonlands and Arches. The company requests to film several rapid scenes in Cataract Canyon, along with land scenes in the Colorado River canyon in Arches. They would have a film crew of 10 plus a boat crew from a commercial outfitter, and would travel in three boats, two Powell-replica boats and a modern motorized raft. The crew would film the Powell boats running rapids, shooting from the motor raft and from shore below high water line. Equipment would be limited to tripods, HD camera and a mini-jib (a pole from which a camera extends). No lights or odd items would be used.

Filming locations on land would be within recommended wilderness, and on the river in Cataract Canyon would be proposed wilderness.

Requested filming dates are September 29 - October 1, 2006. The first day would be to film in Arches and travel to the rapids, the second to film in Cataract Canyon, and the third to travel out of the park.

The crew would follow all park rules and state rules about river safety. An NPS monitor would accompany the trip to ensure that they follow park and permit rules at all times.
