Cyclic Brushing and Tread Repair to Totem Trail

Sitka National Historical Park » Cyclic Brushing and Tread Repair to Totem Trail » Document List

This project maintains the main park visitor trail (Totem Trail) and associated improved trails. Trimming and brushing is accomplished to keep the trail open, and to define the spaces around the park's totem poles and significant views and vistas. It also includes keeping the trail tread in good condition for medium-to-heavy use. Work will include adding and compacting crushed aggregate to the trail surfaces. Small tractors will transport gravel to locations and hand tools will be used to spread and compact gravel. Most brushing will be accomplished with handsaws, lopers, and electric chainsaws. Brush will be removed from Totem Trail and chipped in the maintenance yard behind the Visitor Center.
