Two National Park Service, Western Arctic National Parklands archeologists will conduct archaeological activities at XBM-047, “The Big Site” (Igliqtiqsiugvigruaq). The site is located 22 miles ENE of Kiana along the Kobuk River. NPS is pursing additional work at this site because the Kobuk River continues to erode several housepits and other cultural features making it vital that the site be better documented before any more of it is lost to the river.

The National Park Service has approved this project after reviewing it for compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA).
