Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Fiber Optic Right-of-Way, Route 15 » Document List

The National Park Service, Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP, received an application for a fiber optic line right-of-way to be located within the boundaries of the park near Point of Rocks, MD. The project will involve installation of the line aerially over park lands. None of the proposed work involves any ground or vegetation disturbance within the park. Temporary access during construction would be necessary.

The park's Interdisciplinary Team reviewed the project for impacts to natural and cultural resources. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to the environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets categorical exclusion #C.14 – Issuance of rights-of-way for minor overhead utility lines not involving placement of poles or towers and not involving vegetation management or significant visual intrusion in an NPS-administered area.

Upon review under the National Historic Preservation Act/Section 106 Programmatic Agreement, no historic properties will be affected.

A right-of-way will be issued to govern the installation and maintenance of the line.
