(Original project description)

The National Park Service (NPS) is evaluating a request from the property owner of 11900 River Road, Potomac, Maryland to rebuild a failed retaining wall within the scenic easement the NPS holds on the property. The proposed project falls within 200 feet of the canal in an area of the scenic easement where the construction or replacement of structures is prohibited.

In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other laws, regulations and policies, the NPS invites public scoping comments regarding this project. Comments received will be used to develop and guide the environmental evaluation for the proposed project. The NPS and the Department of Interior will use the NEPA process to determine whether to permit construction. The NEPA process will evaluate all feasible alternatives, which include an alternative by the applicant.

The National Park Service will be accepting public scoping comments beginning November 1, 2007 through November 30, 2007.

A public scoping meeting will be held November 7.
