Site Prep for Modular Office Building Pal. Maint. Yard

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park » Site Prep for Modular Office Building Pal. Maint. Yard » Document List

The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park will be installing a new modular office trailer within the maintenance compound at Great Falls, Maryland. This new facility will replace an aging modular office trailer that had out lasted its useful life some years ago. The office space was not only in poor condition but was inadequate in size for that operation. The completion of this project will upgrade the office facility, supply adequate space for administrative function, training and record storage as well as increasing the energy efficiency.

This new unit will be twice as large as the existing unit and will require a concrete pad for proper stabilization and anchoring. The new unit will be in the same location as the previous, which is located between two shop buildings within the Great Falls Tavern area of the park. It will be on fill material that resulted from the construction of the one adjacent shop building in the 1980's. No new utility work will be needed. All existing hook-ups will be compatible with the new unit. Minor grading will be undertaken for the concrete pad, not to exceed a depth of twelve (12) inches.

This project has been reviewed for impacts to natural and cultural resources by the park's Interdisciplinary Team. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets Categorical Exclusion # C.8 - Replacement in-kind of minor structures and facilities with little or no change in location, capacity, or appearance- for example, comfort stations, pit toilets, fences, kiosks, signs, and campfire circles.
