The Chesapeake and Ohio Canal NHP will install a wayside exhibit which explains the use of a mule crossover bridge during the operational period of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. This exhibit, entitled SWITCHING TIME, will be installed on the 34th Street Bridge, Georgetown, District of Columbia. This bridge is a primary example of a mule crossover bridge and is actively used by park staff performing canal boat operational programs.

The sign will be attached to existing railings of the bridge.

This project has been reviewed for impacts to natural and cultural resources by the park's Interdisciplinary Team. The project does not pose any serious or long-term effects to environmental, historical, cultural, archeological, or visual resources. It meets Categorical Exclusion #C.5 - Installation of signs, displays, and kiosks.
