The National Park Service invites public review on an environmental assessment for recreational facilities in Dyea at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in Skagway, Alaska.

We are planning a virtual public meeting to be held on June 15, 2021. Meeting details are still in development and will be posted soon.

You are encouraged to provide feedback on this environmental assessment through the National Park Service's Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) site. Comments postmarked by June 21, 2021 will also be accepted via postal service:

The proposal is to construct and renovate recreational facilities in Dyea, in the vicinity of the Chilkoot Campground and the trailhead of the Chilkoot Trail. A parking area would be constructed at the trailhead of the Chilkoot Trail, an adjoining day use site would be updated, a trail connection between the Dyea Campground and trailhead/day use area would be improved, and a road segment would be constructed at the north end of the campground.

The intent of this project is to enhance visitor services in Dyea including: visitor orientation, public safety, and recreational opportunities. The project would also develop a setting to provide for a sense of arrival at the Chilkoot Trail.
