Replace Roof and Gutter System- Dubois House (HS-15)

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Replace Roof and Gutter System- Dubois House (HS-15) » Document List

This project will consist of replacing the cedar shingle roof and box gutter system, and make repairs to the existing fascia and soffit at the Dubois House. The box gutter system includes approximately 106 feet of box gutter, 25 feet of roof valley and the addition of 45 feet of downspout on the front uppermost roof area. The gutter system needs to be replaced because of numerous failing joints and continual leaks along the north and south side of the structure. Also, the existing box gutter system does not have enough downspout drops to allow for the most effectual means of removal of rain water. The removal and replacement of the existing gutter and valleys with new copper material sized and constructed with the proper joint construction will eliminate the ongoing water problems which is deteriorating the exterior fabric of the Dubois house. This project will also include repair of any damaged sheeting, box gutter framing and the repair or replacement of damaged fascia, soffit and brackets. The Dubois house has approximately 2,400 square feet of roof area and once all repairs are made and guttering is replaced, an ice and water shield, #30 pound felt paper and a roof underlayment such as "Cedar Breather" will be installed and a new, number one, 24 inch blue label cedar shingle roof will be applied to complete the project. This project will be done by both contractors and in house day labor. Roof replacement, soffit and fascia repairs will be done in house and replacement of the box gutter system will be done by contractors.

Roof and guttering system were installed during the 2005 restoration.
