An approximately 60 year old Pin Oak tree located in the verge between the sidewalk and Capitol Avenue is dying and creating a safety hazard. The tree is directly in front of the Morse House (HS-09) as well having limbs stretching over a busy pedestrian sidewalk and very busy city street. It is across from Fire Station No. 1. About half of the limbs are dead and could break off, potentially harming a pedestrian, blocking the street for fire trucks and other traffic, and/or damaging an historic house. The tree is not a Lincoln-era tree. Certified Arborists will monitor the removal, which will be done by park staff with chain saw certifications.
