Herman Leirer (Exit Glacier) Road Flood Mitigation Project
Kenai Fjords National Park » Herman Leirer (Exit Glacier) Road Flood Mitigation Project » Document List
Exit Creek forms a broad alluvial fan with frequently changing flow patterns. The section of road in question crosses the natural alluvial fan and is prone to periodic overflow. Recently, flooding has damaged the road, overwhelmed the few pipe culverts that exist under the road, and necessitated the closure of public access during periods of high flow (6" or more on the road). The project will be a long-term solution that simultaneously improves the wetlands and stabilizes the roadway.
