Truman Farm Historic Structures and Cultural Landscape Report

Harry S Truman National Historic Site » Truman Farm Historic Structures and Cultural Landscape Report » Document List

Superintendent Larry Villalva has announced the opening of the public comment period for an Environmental Assessment addressing the potential impacts from alternatives presented in a Cultural Landscape Report/Historic Structures Report for the Truman Farm (Grandview Unit).
Since the National Park Service (NPS) began managing the Truman Farm property in 1994, very few changes have been made to the historic buildings and surrounding cultural landscape. With the acquisition of additional acreage, the park is striving to enhance opportunities for visitors and evelop a comprehensive approach to maintaining the site.

The Cultural Landscape Report/Historic Structures Report synthesizes prior historic research on the construction of the farm buildings, development of agricultural fields, and historic use of the property. It traces activities at the farm over time. A series of alternatives are presented, with the proposal of a preferred option for protecting and maintaining these resources into the future. The NPS has contracted with an interdisciplinary team of architects, landscape architects, and engineers to develop the alternatives, and has brainstormed and tentatively evaluated the alternatives over the past year.

Because of the number of full color illustrations, the document has been broken down into several smaller files to enable members of the public and other reviewers to easily download and read the document.
