The National Park Service (NPS) is pleased to announce the issuance of a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) for the "Construct Everglades City Replacement Housing Hardened to Resist Storms and Flooding Environmental Assessment (EA)". Acting Southeast Regional Director Karen Cucurullo approved the FONSI based on the EA recommended by Everglades National Park Superintendent Pedro Ramos and Big Cypress National Preserve Superintendent Thomas Forsyth.

The approved FONSI is based on the preferred alternative in the EA which involves demolishing three hurricane-damaged houses at Everglades City within Everglades National Park, and constructing one new 4-plex housing unit in an established housing area at Ochopee, Florida within the Big Cypress National Preserve (BICY).
This project will provide housing that is safe for seasonal and permanent staff and also provide a structure that is built to current Florida building codes and capable of resisting hurricane winds and flooding.
