Yellowstone World Heritage Report 2014

Yellowstone was designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1978. In 1995, the World Heritage Committee, with the agreement of the United States, placed Yellowstone National Park on its "List of World Heritage in Danger" in response to specific threats identified to the outstanding universal value of the park. At its 27th Session in July 2003, the Committee decided to remove the park from the Danger List. As part of the removal from the List, Yellowstone regularly reports to the Committee on the original threats and the progress made towards resolving these issues. This Progress Report provides a synopsis of the current status of specific threats outlined in the Committee's decision. All member nations of the World Heritage Convention voluntarily nominate their own sites embracing outstanding natural or cultural values. Member nations retain complete sovereignty over each site and over the operation of locations added to the World Heritage List.

Yellowstone's draft Progress Report is available for public review and comment from December 19, 2014 through January 11, 2015. All comments will be reviewed by the National Park Service and transmitted, in their entirety, along with the final report to the UNESCO World Heritage Centre for consideration by the World Heritage Committee.
