Lower Kaweah Site 11 Recommended Remediation Action
Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks » Lower Kaweah Site 11 Recommended Remediation Action » Document List
In May 2014, site assessments of the Lower Kaweah Former Burn Dump Site, located within the Giant Forest area of Sequoia National Park, indicated that leaving the dump area in its present condition could pose an unacceptable risk to human health and the environment. An Engineering Evaluation / Cost Analysis (EE/CA) Report was prepared and recommended excavation and off-site disposal of the waste materials contained within the dump. The public comment and review period for this project work occurred from January 16 through February 16, 2015. No substantive comments were received. On June 10, 2015, an Action Memorandum was signed by the NPS's Pacific West Regional Director, approving implementation of the removal actions at the Lower Kaweah Former Burn Dump Site.
