Polychrome Area Improvements Phase II: Reroute of the Denali Park Road away from the Bear Cave Landslide

Denali National Park and Preserve » Polychrome Area Improvements Phase II: Reroute of the Denali Park Road away from the Bear Cave Landslide

The integrity of the Denali Park Road is threatened by an unstable slope below the road near Mile 44.8, known as the "Bear Cave Landslide" (shown outlined by a yellow dotted line in the above LiDAR image). As a part of Phase II of the Polychrome Area Improvements project, the National Park Service in partnership with Western Federal Lands Highway Division, will reroute an approximately 700ft-long section of the road away from the hazard. No further public review will be required, as the project was determined to have little or no potential for significant environmental impact. Construction is expected to occur in Summer 2026.
