Create a small ditch on west side of Legacy Garden (Block 11, Lots 1-8) to improve drainage

This project will add a drainage ditch along the west edge of Legacy Garden (Block 11, Lots 1-8) on the edge of the paved alleyway due to recurring problems with standing water in the alley. Water runoff after heavy rain does not drain to Edwards Street where there are storm drains and tends to pool into large puddles reaching into the parking areas for the leased offices. The ditch will supplement the natural grade away from the park which is too subtle to be effective.

The ditch will be approximately 18" deep and 18-24" wide and run the entire length of the block towards Edwards Street. The area was historically open pasture area and later was converted to a landscaped garden in the mid-1970s to provide a buffer between the busy street sounds and the rest of the park. Creating the garden area scraped the dirt at least 18" below surface, removing any possible archeological sites to that level.

The area is outside the historic zone and is not considered a contributing asset to the National Historic Landmark designation.
