Add reflective tape street numbers to the 8th Street fence in front of historic houses for safety

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Add reflective tape street numbers to the 8th Street fence in front of historic houses for safety » Document List

3" tall adhesive numbers made from white or clear reflective vinyl will be added to the fences on the 8th Street side of the historic houses in the neighborhood to provide improved location finding for fire and police staff. The houses already have strobe lights that will go off in the event of an emergency, but the street numbers would also help the staff to locate the buildings more quickly. Adding the numbers to the fences make them more visible to police or firefighters on the street and will not damage the historic buildings and will be virtually invisible to visitors because the white numbers would be on white, non-historic fences. When the fence has to be replaced, the number will also be replaced with fresh numbers.

Because the fence in front of the Lincoln Home is painted tan to match its historic appearance, the street number would be applied to the white fence immediately adjacent to the front of the home.

Adding these numbers has been suggested by retired firefighters on the park's maintenance staff and concurred by current Springfield Fire Fighters and Police.

The numbers would be purchased from a local sign maker.
