Remove old bushes and grind out stump in corner of Visitor Parking Lot in preparation for new plantings

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Remove old bushes and grind out stump in corner of Visitor Parking Lot in preparation for new plantings » Document List

The southeast corner of the Visitor Parking lot will be cleared of old boxwood bushes and a tree stump as part of the renovation of the planting areas around the parking lot. Due to the lateness in the planting season, the area will be cleared and mulch installed prior to planting next spring. The park is working with the Springfield Civic Garden Club to create new native planting areas that will require less upkeep and care, as well as provide pollinating plants and native grasses to improve the green space. All stumps will be ground out by park staff. The area is adjacent to the historic Stuve Carriage House (HS-05a), the alley, and the parking lot and was previously disturbed when the parking lot and alley were paved by the National Park Service in the mid 1970s.
