Replace front door of Lyon/Rosenwald House (HS-08) to improve security

The current front door of the Lyon House contains a large sheet of clear glass that allows visitors and passerby the ability to see clearly into the front of the house and offices. It would also be possible to break out the glass and turn the thumb lock on the front door to quickly gain access. The door is a part of an elaborate door frame that also contains panes of glass that would allow access to the thumb lock. The door is alarmed, but damage could easily be done. It is not known if the door and frame are original to the house because the house was transferred to the NPS fully restored. The new door will be a sympathetic design to match the house' 1870s Italianate appearance.

To create a more secure access point, the door would be changed to have less glass and located higher on the door that would make it impossible to get to the doorknob. The door style will resemble the front door at the Robinson House (HS10) located a block away within the park. The thumb lock will be removed for a keyed deadbolt and doorknob mechanism which would include the lock button on the edge of the door. The current door is too thin to allow for this mechanism. Most of the frame would remain in place with the exception of the innermost supports which will have to be adapted.
