Remove crooked Linden tree in front of Jenkins/Roll lots (Block 11, Lots 4 & 5)

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Remove crooked Linden tree in front of Jenkins/Roll lots (Block 11, Lots 4 & 5) » Document List

A Linden (Basswood) tree planted close to the sidewalk in the area in front of the Jenkins and Roll lots (Block 11, Lots 4 & 5) is leaning over the walkway, it is planted too close to the walkway, and the roots are pulling out of the ground, creating numerous safety hazards. The tree was planted in the late 1990s.The tree will be removed, the stump ground out, and a native "street tree" that tops out at less than 30 feet will be planted about 4' away, closer to the street. This will prevent the tree from crowding the walkway and will eliminate the possibility of large limbs from the tree becoming safety hazards. Suggested trees are dogwoods, serviceberry, maples, buckeye, or hickory, that will match other trees in the neighborhood. The park CLR (2014) suggests maintaining the street trees in this area with similar trees.
