Development of a Monument-wide Programmatic Agreement

Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument » Development of a Monument-wide Programmatic Agreement » Document List

Each spring, employees at Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument need to grade roads and parking areas, replace failed culverts, and service toilets to welcome the 40,000+ expected visitors. Planning for this work starts every fall and includes documentation to disclose to the public, Tribes, and partners, the environmental impacts of these actions. In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, among other laws and policies, Monument staff are working to make the process more efficient by disclosing expected actions in a programmatic agreement with the State Historic Preservation Officer and Tribes. This agreement would disclose regular maintenance activities to ensure the protection of the Monument resources to facilitate needed maintenance activities to happen in the spring.

The draft document is available for public comment from February 20, 2024, and ends on March 20, 2024. Instructions on how to comment and the draft agreement can be found by clicking on the "Open for Comment" link.
