Proposed Changes in 2006 Fishing Regulations

Yellowstone National Park » Proposed Changes in 2006 Fishing Regulations » Document List

Yellowstone National Park is proposing changes to its fishing regulations for implementation in 2006. Regulation changes are needed to protect native fishes, particularly cutthroat trout populations, that have recently declined as a result of hybridization and predation pressure from introduced, non-native fishes.

The park is requesting comments from the public on these changes through area public meetings from April 4-18, 2005, and a written comment period through August 31, 2005. In addition, comments are requested from the public on a potential barbless hook requirement to reduce the incidence of fish injury and jaw deformity. No changes in the closure periods or opening times of specific park areas or waters are proposed.

Details on the public meeting locations and times can be found in the "Meeting Notices" link on the left side of this page.

A description of the proposed changes including a map of the proposed regulation areas can be found by going to "Documents & Links" on the left side of this page and opening the "Proposed Changes in 2006 Fishing Regulations" document.

Written comments may be submitted on this website by going to "Documents & Links" and opening the "Proposed Changes in 2006 Fishing Regulations" document. A "Comment on Document" link will then appear to the left.

Written comments may also be mailed to: Superintendent, Fisheries Regulations, Yellowstone National Park, P.O. Box 168, Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, 82190.
