Repair crack/hole in Lincoln Home (HS-01) foundation causing leak into basement

Lincoln Home National Historic Site » Repair crack/hole in Lincoln Home (HS-01) foundation causing leak into basement » Document List

A mortar loss and cracked bricks in the northwest corner of the Lincoln Home foundation has caused rain water to leak into the Lincoln Home basement and cause staining on the floor boards above it. Some staining may also be on the nearest joist but due to the age of the joist it cannot be determined if the staining is newer. This project will seal the circa 1950 bricks and replace the mortar, which was installed during the 1987-1988 restoration. An historically appropriate "soft" mortar, untinted, will be used. The area will be painted shortly after as part of the repainting of the entire Lincoln Home (PEPC #77013). Additional mortar will be applied inside if able to get to the leak. Water detectors will be installed in the basement to track future leaks.
