Description:
The National Park Service is evaluating a replacement of the current floating bridge and associated trails to improve visitor access at the Brooks River area of Katmai National Park and Preserve. This bridge replacement would support the same pedestrian and small vehicle traffic that currently utilizes the existing floating bridge. The NPS is also considering relocating the existing NPS barge landing and access road away from the Brooks iver. These access improvements are being valuated under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) through preparation of an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).
The public is invited to learn more about the proposed project and provide comments.
Public scoping meeting agenda:
- Open House (7:00 to 7:30 pm)
- Formal presentation about the project (7:30 to 8:00 pm)
- Public questions and comment opportunity (8:00 to 9:00 pm)
Meeting Directions/Instructions:
Exit the New Seward Highway onto Dowling Road. Travel east on Dowling to Lake Otis Parkway. Turn right onto Lake Otis heading south to 68th Avenue. Turn left on 68th Avenue, traveling east to Elmore Road. Turn right on Elmore Road. Go a short distance to a sign on your left saying Bureau of Land Management - Campbell Tract Facility. Turn left into the facility and proceed till you come to a fork in the road. Take the left fork, following the sign that reads "Campbell Creek Science Center." Travel approximately 1 mile on a gravel road to the science center parking lot on your left. The building will be on your right. A walking path wraps around the building to the front entrance.

The ComSerFac is located approximately one mile west of King Salmon. Turn onto West Housing Road and take the second left into the FAA Housing Area. The ComSerFac is located on the left side of the road. Parking is available next to the facility.
