Castle Nugent Farms SRS Alternatives

The National Park Service is proposing three concepts for the future protection, interpretation, and overall management of resources associated with the Castle Nugent Farms study area, plus a no action alternative. The Park Service believes the three concepts meet the criteria of suitability and feasibility.

The alternatives for the public's consideration are broad and conceptual on purpose. We have intentionally avoided going into great detail. The specific operation of any park area that may be established at Castle Nugent would be developed through a separate planning process. Details about such things as operations, facilities, staffing, visitor amenities, recreational opportunities and resource protection would all be specified through the development of a general management plan and subsequent plans. For the purposes of this study, we are keeping the proposals very broad.

Also, the proposed boundaries do not imply that there will be federal ownership of all lands contained within. There may very well remain private holdings or leased lands within a new park. There are many parks in the system that have such arrangements. Also, the territorial waters would remain and there is no intention to transfer ownership to the Federal government.
