Canaveral National Seashore FMP/EA Final Draft

The FMP is a comprehensive document that addresses how the park will implement fire prevention measures, respond to wildland fires and address the management tool of prescribed fire use.

The EA analyzes two primary alternatives: (1) maintain the current program of prescribed and limited wildland fire use to reduce hazardous fuels, protect adjacent communities and improve habitat for state and federally protected species and (2) increase prescribed fire use by adding burn units in the Apollo District, eliminate wildland fire use and implement a five-year fuels treatment plan. The second alternative is the one preferred by the National Park Service.
