The National Park Service is in the early stages of developing a Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks Visitor Experience and Access Plan. This plan will address travel to and within developed areas of the parks. Currently, the NPS is seeking public input to guide the next steps in the planning process.

The parks experienced record-breaking levels of visitation over the last decade, and the parks' popular destinations can be challenging for visitors and staff to navigate, particularly during busy times. This project seeks to meet the changing needs of park visitors while sustainably addressing an ongoing increase in visitation.

The plan will consider key issues related to visitor use and experience, including the quality of visitor experience and level of visitor services at frontcountry destinations; vehicular crowding and congestion at entrance stations, parking lots, along highway corridors, and at key visitor destinations; and protection of cultural and natural resources. The planning process will examine current management direction and provide recommendations for ensuring high-quality access to frontcountry areas while preserving natural and cultural resources and visitor experiences.
