Civic Engagement: Fall 2022

From now through February 15, 2023, we invite you to participate in the planning process as the first of several opportunities to engage in a Visitor Experience and Access Plan for Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. The information gathered through this planning process will inform decision-making and priority-setting for public investments over the next decade.

Step 1. Learn about the issues

On this page you can find links to a story map and other materials to help you learn about frountcountry areas of the parks, the planning process, and the issues that this plan is designed to address. The presentation for the public meeting is also attached as are the posters displayed at in-person public meetings and pop-up events in the parks. The video recording from the virtual public meeting is available at https://www.nps.gov/seki/getinvolved/planning.htm (link is also available under "Links" in the leftside menu).

Step 2. Join the Conversation!

We know that your experience of Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is important! So whether you come to the parks every week, or have yet to visit, we want to hear from you! Public comments on this first civic engagement period will be accepted through midnight, February 15, 2023. Please comment online by clicking on the "comment now" button below or to the left. Comments may also be mailed to: Superintendent, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, Attn: Visitor Experience and Access Plan, 47050 Generals Highway, Three Rivers, CA 93271.

Comments that speak to the following questions are particularly helpful.
1. What experiences in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are most important to you?
2. What barriers get in the way of enjoying or visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks?
3. What can the park do to better address these barriers?
4. What is the park doing well to manage these issues that you would like to see continue?

Update on Public Comment Period (January 18, 2023):
When looking at attached materials, the public comment period was originally set to close on January 17, 2023, but due to local weather around the parks and the rescheduling of a public meeting, the NPS extended the public comment period by an additional month. We are now accepting public comments through February 15, 2023.
