Crater Rim Drive Rehabilitation EA

The Crater Rim Drive Rehabilitation Environmental Assessment (EA) is available for public review and comment. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park proposes to rehabilitate 2.8 miles of Crater Rim Drive, beginning just after the junction with State Highway 11 (just before the park entrance station), and continuing to the gate just west of the Jaggar Museum parking area.

The EA was prepared to help the National Park Service evaluate the rehabilitation of 2.8 miles of Crater Rim Drive. Two alternatives are described, the Action Alternative for rehabilitating the road and the No Action Alternative, which would maintain the current road maintenance activities. The EA presents an analysis of the potential environmental impacts of each alternative and includes mitigation measures to avoid or minimize those impacts.
