Environmental Assessment

The National Park Service and Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park invite the public to review an Environmental Assessment (EA) describing the project to develop a new headquarters and visitor center in Williamsport, MD. The EA details 2 alternatives associated with the project: 1) the no action alternative wherein the park headquarters remains in Hagerstown, MD, and 2) the action alternative wherein the park will develop the Miller Lumber Company site by building a new headquarters and visitor center adjacent to the park (NPS Preferred).

The EA will be available for review from July 22 through September 9, 2019. Public comments are encouraged to be submitted through the NPS' Planning, Environment & Public Comment website, but will also be accepted in person at a public meeting on July 23, 2019 (see Meeting Notices section of the PEPC website) or by mail at the address below.
