Public Comment Report for Scoping Phase - March 2018

The National Park Service is preparing a draft Environmental and Economic Analysis (EEA) for the Ambler Mining District Industrial Access Project through the Kobuk River unit of Gates of the Arctic National Park and Preserve. The first step in the process of preparing the EEA is obtaining input. The public input period for the EEA was from October 5, 2017 to January 31, 2018. The Public Comment Summary Report provides information on the comments received.

The National Park Service participated in the 10 public meetings held by the Bureau of Land Management between November 13 and December 8, 2017 with communities that could be affected by the project. The National Park Service invited you to express your views on the information, issues, and alternatives that need to be addressed in the EEA. All comments, regardless of their topic, were carefully read and analyzed.

The Public Comment Summary Report contains an introduction, statistical comment analysis, and concern statements, which summarize similar comments on particular topics. It should be noted that some letters received by the National Park Service related to the Bureau of Land Management Environmental Impact Statement. These comments were considered to be outside the EEA scope of analysis. This Public Comment Summary Report focuses only on what ANILCA requires for the EEA.
