Public comments being sought for Implementation Plans


The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on a project that is part of the implementation of the Wilderness Stewardship Plan (WSP), approved in 2015. The projects would convert existing administrative corrals to visitor stock use facilities at Wolverton in Sequoia National Park.

Per the WSP, the park is requesting public input on the proposed plans for the sites. The upgrades would include expanding the parking areas to allow for truck and trailer parking and turnaround space, dividing the existing corral space to accommodate 1 to 2 stock groups, and providing 1 to 2 campsites with limited facilities (e.g., picnic tables, food-storage boxes, and grills) to allow for short-term use. The campsites would be included in the NPS reservation system and would be open to visitors with stock.

These projects are the first of several that will enhance recreational opportunities for visitors who wish to use horses, mules, llamas, or burros as part of their park experience.

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks is interested in any public concerns, potential issues, or opportunities related to this proposed projects. After analyzing comments received during scoping, the park will determine the level of analysis needed.
