Convert NPS Corral for Visitor Use at Wolverton, Sequoia NP

Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks » Convert NPS Corral for Visitor Use at Wolverton, Sequoia NP » Document List

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public input on a project that is part of the implementation of the Wilderness Stewardship Plan (WSP), approved in 2015. The project would convert one of the two existing administrative corrals at Wolverton to a visitor stock use facility.

Per the WSP, the park is requesting public input on the proposed plans for the site. The upgrades would include expanding the parking areas to allow for truck and trailer parking and turnaround space, dividing the existing corral space to accommodate 1 to 2 stock groups, and providing 1 to 2 campsites with limited facilities (e.g., picnic tables, food-storage boxes, and grills) to allow for short-term use. The campsites would be included in the NPS reservation system and would be open to visitors with stock.

These projects are the first of several to be implemented as part of the WSP that will enhance recreational opportunities for visitors who wish to use horses, mules, llamas, or burros as part of their park experience. There is also an opportunity to provide comments on the Mineral King site plans at: https://parkplanning.nps.gov/MK_Corrals.

Please provide your comments on the Wolverton site by clicking "Comment Now" on this website. Comments will be accepted until April 4, 2018. Thank you.
