Statement of Findings for Floodplains and Wetlands for the Proposed Potomac Yard Metrorail Station

The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) and the City of Alexandria have prepared a Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for construction of a Metrorail Station to serve the Potomac Yard area of Alexandria. The National Park Service (NPS) is a cooperating agency, in accordance with the Council on Environmental Quality and U.S. Department of Transportation regulations (40 CFR 1501.6 and 23 CFR 771.111).

The National Park Service (NPS) is seeking public comment on a Statement of Findings (SOF) for floodplains and wetlands that analyzes the impacts of the proposed Potomac Yard Metrorail Station to the George Washington Memorial Parkway and adjacent Greens Scenic Area easement. The draft SOF is being released in conjunction with the Final Environmental Impact Statement for the Potomac Yard Metrorail Station project. This SOF is prepared to assess the effects on NPS floodplains and wetlands caused by building the Metrorail station, provides a justification for use of the floodplain and wetlands, and summarizes impacts, mitigation, and compensation activities. The SOF complies with Executive Orders 11988, 11990 and 13690, and associated NPS policies and procedures, which govern protection of wetlands and management of floodplains.
