Draft MOA

The proposed rehabilitation and demolitions at Riis Park are subject to Section 106 of the National

Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), which requires federal agencies to consider the

effects of their actions on historic properties. Due to the change from their historic

character of the Beach Pavilion and the courtyard wall, the NPS has determined that the

proposed project will have an adverse effect on the Jacob Riis Park Historic District. As

required by NHPA, the NPS has consulted with the New York State Historic

Preservation Office, and has drafted a Memorandum of Agreement to that effect.

The ongoing participation of the public is very important to the success of this project.
