Draft Commercial Services Strategy

The Commercial Services Strategy (CSS) will provide the process for establishing the types and levels of commercial activities necessary and/or appropriate for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Hisotirc Site. The park has a number of objectives for this commercial services strategy project, including to:
1. Identify desired conditions of specific park areas targeted for priority action and develop necessary and appropriate criteria to quickly and easily evaluate existing and future commercial service opportunities.
2. Develop new ideas for potential commercial service opportunities through conversations with current concessioners, park staff, a review of local businesses and development authorities, and visits to nearby areas with similar resources (e.g. city, regional, and state parks; historic landmarks; etc.)
3. Engage community and park stakeholders to discuss status of current commercial services and develop new commercial service ideas and engage the public to develop new commercial service ideas and solicit comments on existing ideas.
4. Evaluate existing and new commercial services and determine appropriate commercial service instruments (Concessions Contract, Commercial Use Authorization, Lease, etc.).
5. Identify highest priority commercial service opportunities and lay preliminary groundwork for implementation. This may take many forms, depending on which service(s) are determined to be the highest priority, but will normally include a basic market analysis and list of next steps.
6. Prepare a written commercial services strategy for approval by the Regional Director.

Please review and provide feedback on the attached Commercial Services Strategy document.
