Anacostia Kingfisher Watertrail Master Plan and Public Access Project


Following the Anacostia River corridor from Bladensburg, Maryland through Washington, DC to the Potomac River, the Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail encompasses resources both within Anacostia Park and beyond. It is a guided experience on the Anacostia.The Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail is a way to explore the Anacostia River by water or land. The Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail provides information, orientation and resources for trail users.

The Anacostia Watershed Society (AWS) is currently updating the water trail map and guide—to be available in print and online—to orient trail users to the resources and recreational opportunities of the Anacostia.The Anacostia Watershed Society has taken the lead as coordinator for the Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail. In partnership with the National Park Service and other trail partners, AWS is working to enhance trail user experience through improvements to access facilities and programming along the Anacostia.

The development planning for the Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail underway now will incorporate public and stakeholder input to develop a coordinated inventory of current conditions and recommendations for improvements. The associated map represents sites that currently provide or could provide access and programming along the Anacostia Kingfisher Water Trail.
