Death Valley National Park Wilderness and Backcountry Stewardship Plan
Consistent with the National Environmental Policy Act, the National Park Service has developed a Wilderness and Backcountry Stewardship Plan and Environmental Assessment for Death Valley National Park, and we are seeking your comments on the plan and environmental assessment until October 9, 2012.
The purpose of this plan is to guide the National Park Service in making decisions regarding the future use and protection of Death Valley National Park's wilderness and backcountry lands. This plan addresses all congressionally designated wilderness lands within Death Valley National Park, and also includes non-wilderness backcountry concerns, such as backcountry road corridors and campsites, backcountry cabins near roads, and non-wilderness backcountry lands. The plan does not address developed or frontcountry areas within the park, nor does it address the Saline Valley Warm Springs area.
As identified in the plan and environmental assessment, the National Park Service's preferred alternative is Alternative D, the Focused Action Alternative.
